Jewelcrafting

Overview

Jewelcrafting (often shortened to JC) turns metal bars and gems into rings, earrings and necklaces. Every finished piece gives one stat, decided by the gem you set into it, and the bonus grows with the metal tier: +1 on Copper up to +7 on Platinum. Because gems come mostly from mineral veins, Jewelcrafters tend to pick up Mining as well.

Getting Started

Learn the skill from a jewelcrafting trainer in any of these cities:

Night Harbor: find the jewelcrafting trainer, then buy your Jewelcrafting Kit from a jewelcrafter in the Night Market.
Faelindral: Vaelyndir the Jewelcrafter is up above the Inn (go up the ramp from the Inn, bear left and follow the signs), next to Enchanter Wyrel and Disenchanter Gwendyl.
Underdocks: Sorgen Stoneshiner is at Forge Row, on one of the lower terraces of the citadel.

You’ll need:

Jewelcrafting Kit for every combine. Sold by jewelcrafting vendors.
Trainee’s Jewelcrafting Kit instead, if you picked the Jewelcrafting minor non-combat trait at character creation. With that trait you can start crafting right away.
Anvil and Smithing Pliers to make Chain Links for necklaces.

Enchanted bars come from the Enchanting skill (combined in a Tome of Enchantment, with a chance to fail) or from an Enchanter, whose enchant spells never fail.

Each metal tier has its own trivial, gem grade and mold, and every step up adds +1 to the finished piece’s stat.

Other gems you may find, such as Amber, Bloodstone, Black Pearl, Opal or Topaz, aren’t used in any current jewelry recipe. Some of them were used by older recipes that have since been removed from the game.

Leveling Tips

All 21 recipes in a tier share the same trivial, so pick the gem whose stat you (or your buyers) actually want.
Earrings are the cheapest skill-up: one regular bar and one enchanted bar, versus two enchanted bars for a ring and a full set of Chain Links for a necklace.
Make Wire, Settings and Mountings in batches early. They trivial at 10, so they only help your skill at the very start.
A gem grade unlocks two metal tiers at a time (Flawed for Bronze and Silver, Imperfect for Iron and Gold, uncut for Steel and Platinum), so stock up on the next grade before you reach it.

Pairs With

Mining supplies the ore and gems Jewelcrafting depends on.
Smelting turns ore into the metal bars used in every recipe.
Enchanting supplies the enchanted bars used in Settings and Mountings.
Blacksmithing access to an Anvil and Smithing Pliers for the Chain Links in necklaces.
